CCS - An Overview

CCS Adoption (Clifton Children's Society) has been in existence since 1904.  Over the years its work has developed in different ways but always with a focus on helping children in need.  We are an independent, professional, registered Adoption Agency.  We aim to work to the highest standards.  We are independently funded and work separately from, but in co-operation with, Social Services Departments throughout the country.

We have a team of skilled social workers who are all registered with the General Social Care Council.

We cover the areas of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.

We seek to promote the welfare of children of all  religions, races, cultures and abilities and believe that the best place for a child to grow up is within their family of origin.

When this is not possible, children need families who will make a permanent commitment to them throughout their childhood and into adulthood.

The aim of CCS Adoption is to offer the opportunity of family life through adoption and to support parents, adopters and children throughout the process, recognising the lifelong impact of adoption.

We welcome people of all faiths or none.  Children waiting for adoption come from diverse backgrounds and we therefore need a wide range of adoptive families in order to meet their needs.

Please note that we do not work in the area of intercountry adoption.  If you are interested in adopting a child from overseas, more information can be found on the government website click here or www.iacentre.org.uk

The services we offer

We offer a comprehensive adoptive service through:

Raising awareness about adoption and encouraging people to think about  adoptive parenthood.

Guiding prospective adopters through the assessment process and preparing them for adoptive parenthood.

Matching children with adoptive parents and supporting them in getting to know each other.  Guidance is offered leading up to and beyond the legal adoption.

Building long term relationship with adoptive families, providing support in the form of training sessions, networking, social and seasonal events.

Providing counselling and advisory services to adopted adults seeking information about their early life histories and also assisting their adoptive and birth families (see our post-adoption page)

Please note that we do not work in the area of intercountry adoption.  If you are interested in adopting a child from overseas, more information can be found at the government website click here  or www.iacentre.org.uk.

OFSTED independent inspection report 2007

CCS Adoption was inspected by OFSTED in August 2007.  The agency's overall quality rating was good, and the agency was judged to be good in all the areas which were judged, namely:
- Protecting children from harm or neglect and helping them to stay safe.
- Helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do.
- Organisation.

The inspector provided the following overview:

"The agency offers a child focused service that is driven by a commitment to approving adopters who are able to meet the needs of difficult to place children.  It welcomes applications from all members of the community, provides them with detailed information and offers a confident, rigorous approach to the assessment of suitable families.

It is governed by a conscientious board of trustees, which provides a supportive and encouraging environment within which managers and staff can work and develop the service.  Managers and staff are experienced, qualified and skilled professionals that elicit warm praise from those who have received a service and who demonstrate well developed and knowledgeable practice in adoption matters."

The inspector also commented:

"The agency's approach to supporting families it approves throughout the adoption 'journey' is well considered and sensitive...Post adoption support is also of a very good standard.  Service users who were interviewed, or responded through questionnaires, were delighted with the standard of service they received."

The full text of the inspection is now available on the OFSTED website.  To access the report, click here.
