Let’s Talk About Letterbox and Contact – Session 2
What is it and why does it matter?
The second in a series of four informal sessions where we open up the subject of Letterbox and Contact with birth families for adopted children and young people. Feel free to come to all or just those you fancy.
This session will be facilitated by Lindy Wootton the CCS Sharing Stories Manager and Eve Payne the Sharing Stories Life Story Worker. They will also be joined by an experienced CCS adopter who has adopted twice and has direct contact arrangements with both children’s birth families. She will be sharing her thoughts on contact, the challenges, the benefits and the emotional journey she and her family have been on as they have grappled with the complexities of feelings around contact. The session will be relatively informal with the chance to join the discussion, share and ask questions of those present. Adopters should also leave with a greater understanding of the purpose of post-adoption contact (relationships and identity building), the key messages from the research evidence around post-adoption contact and have an opportunity to hear how letterbox and direct contact can work well, despite the challenges involved.

The session will be held online via Zoom. Please contact us at activities@ccsadoption.org for joining details.
