Independent Panel Members
Make a lasting difference in a child’s life.
We are seeking compassionate, reflective, and dedicated individuals to join our Adoption Panel as Independent Panel Members. This is a voluntary role that plays a vital part in ensuring the welfare, safety, and long‑term outcomes of children who may be adopted.
About the Role
As an Independent Panel Member, you will contribute your unique perspective to the decision‑making process regarding prospective adopters. You will review reports, participate in panel discussions, and offer well‑informed, balanced recommendations.
CCS Adoption panels take place every 4-6 weeks (on a Tuesday) and are mainly in-person panels where you will need to physically attend, and occasionally remote panels. In addition, panel members attend 2 in-person days of training per year.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from people with diverse personal and professional backgrounds. You will preferably have lived experience of adoption, or as a professional.
You must have the ability to:
- Consider information objectively and sensitively
- Work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary panel
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and with empathy
- Prioritise the needs, rights, and welfare of children
- Commit to attending panel meetings and reading papers in advance, as well as 2 x panel training a year.
Experience in social care, education, health, or lived experience of the care system is beneficial but not essential.
