Writing Competition Winners – Esther Woodruff

In Autumn 2019 we held a writing competition for adopted young people on the theme This Is Me. We had some wonderful entries that were judged by our team and Miles Chambers, Bristol’s first poet laureate. Over the coming few weeks, we will be publishing the winners so do watch this space and read them all.

This is Me

“This strong, powerful cat with the elegant, gold eyes.

This is me when I feel brave.

But sometimes, the courageous cat can get terribly wounded.

She can feel scared when dogs bark at her. It feels like the dogs are shouting insults at her.

This is me when I feel frightened.

There are times when the cat feels energetic, climbs, jumps and mews happily.

This is me when I feel radiant with joy.

This is me.

This stroppy, powerful, scared, energetic cat.

This is me.”

By Esther Woodruff, aged 11.
